Everything we learned from Michigan football 2025 spring roster release
Spring ball started in earnest for the Michigan football team on Tuesday which meant that the spring roster was officially updated with some new names and faces. Most of the additions were expected, either as freshmen or incoming transfers. However the heights and weights for players were not updated from either their recruitment or their previous school. Though there were a few freshmen we didn't catch during bowl prep who appear to have enrolled and made it to campus.
Additionally, there were a handful of number changes, but we only gleaned one position change among the team. With all of that said, here's everything we observed via the new spring roster in 2025.
Freshmen who enrolled (with numbers)
- 2 – DB Shamari Earls
- 4 – WR Andrew Marsh
- 12 – LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng
- 14 – DB Jordan Young
- 19 – QB Bryce Underwood
- 26 – RB Donovan Johnson
- 29 – LB Chase Taylor
- 37 – EDGE Julius Holly
- 45 – TE Eli Owens
- 45 – DL Travis Moten
- 65 – OL Andrew Babalola
- 74 – OL Avery Gach
- 75 – OL Kaden Strayhorn
- 88 – WR Jamar Browder
- 99 – DL Bobby Kanka
Transfers who have enrolled (with numbers)
- 0 – DL Tré Williams (via Clemson)
- 7 – DB TJ Metcalf (via Arkansas)
- 10 – QB Mikey Keene (via Fresno State)
- 13 – DB Caleb Anderson (via Louisiana)
- 13 – WR Donaven McCulley (via Indiana)
- 22 – RB Justice Haynes (via Alabama)
- 24 – DB Tevis Metcalf (via Arkansas)
- 40 – LB Troy Bowles (via Georgia)
- 44 – DL Damon Payne (via Alabama)
- 70 – OL Brady Norton (via Cal Poly)
Transfers who have not enrolled
Two incoming transfers were not listed on the roster:
- IOL Lawrence Hattar (via Ferris State)
- WR Anthony Simpson (via UMass)
Number changes
There were a number of changes to the jersey number, most notably with defensive lineman Rayshaun Benny moving on from No. 26. Here are the players with their new numbers:
- 4 - DL TJ Guy (formerly 42)
- 7 - RB Benjamin Hall (formerly 28)
- 24 - RB Bryson Kuzdzal (formerly 41)
- 35 - WR Drew Hickmott (formerly 85)
- 36 - DB Joshua Nichols (formerly 29)
- 39 - DB Max Reyes (formerly 31)
- 41 - DB Shomari Stone Jr. (formerly 37)
- 55 - DL Rayshaun Benny (formerly 26)
- 60 - OL Brooks Bahr (formerly 51)
- 68 - LS Dan Rosenberg (formerly 74)
- 85 - WR Logan Forbes (formerly 35)
- -- WR Amorion Walker (no number listed, formerly 1)
Notes
- Players we were interested in seeing on the roster included DB Ja'Den McBurrows, LB Jaydon Hood, and EDGE Kechaun Bennett. McBurrows has had injury issues but could be a starter at nickel for the Wolverines if healthy. Hood has been a reserve linebacker but has yet to get much of a starring role, though he played more last year. Bennett has mostly languished on special teams. All three are from the 2021 class.
- Former UNLV transfer DB Ricky Johnson, who we thought could be on the roster was not.
- Michigan needs to get down to 105 players by the season but currently sits at 112 players -- and that's not counting any incoming freshmen or transfers who have not yet reported to campus or those it might add after spring ball.
- The only position change we could find was former walk-on Bryce Wilcox who switched from defensive back to wide receiver.
- Wide receiver Amorion Walker was not listed with a number. He wore No. 1 last season.
