ROUND THE BASES: Lady Jumpers' big fourth inning leads to victory over Glasgow

The Somerset Lady Jumpers were hoping to parlay a victory on Saturday at home to another victory at home on Tuesday, this time against the Glasgow Lady Scotties. Despite trailing by a run heading into the fourth inning, a big fourth inning saw the Jumpers score four runs as they were able to take down the Scotties 5-2.

Reagan Childers led the way with two RBI’s and a home run, the first of her varsity career. Maci Huff and Eva Hines each had one RBI apiece, while Aleah Wesley had one hit. Addy White and Makenna Baker each had a stolen base. White went three innings in her start on the mound, allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout. Childers earned the win in relief, pitching the final four innings while allowing no hits and striking out seven batters.

Somerset improves to 5-3 and with weather on Thursday expected to cancel their scheduled game against West Jessamine, the Jumpers will return to the field on Friday as they travel to Lincoln County.

Lady Maroons on fire in win over Garrard

The Pulaski County Maroons scheduled tough competition this season and had lost seven of their last eight games heading into Tuesday’s contest against Garrard County. Despite trailing early against the Lady Lions, the Maroons came alive and eventually defeated Garrard 15-5 in six innings.

Maggie Gregory, Bella Ellis and Ryann Sowder all hit home runs in the win, with Ellis’ home run being her 51st of her career to put the senior in fifth all-time in the state in terms of home runs. Gregory also earned the win on the mound.

Pulaski improves to 4-7 and weather-permitting will take on Madison Southern on Thursday. Assuming the weather forces the cancellation of that game, they will next be in action on April 12, taking on Ironton, Ohio and Montgomery County.

Southwestern shut out by Madison Central

After four straight games of scoring at least 10 runs, the hot bats of the Southwestern Warriors finally ran cold as they came up against a tough Madison Central team at home, with the Warriors being shut out by a score of 6-0.

Abigail Whitescarver had the lone hit in the loss for the Warriors, with Whitescarver and Chloe Carroll also having a stolen base apiece. Jayla Singleton earned the loss on the mound, going six and one-third innings while allowing six runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts. Whitescarver pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and allowed just one hit with one strikeout.

Southwestern falls to 5-4 and assuming their game against Garrard County is canceled on Thursday due to the weather, will next take on Clinton County and Barren County on Saturday in the East vs West Classic.

Cougars fall to Lincoln in doubleheader

The Somerset Christian Cougars took on the Lincoln County Patriots at home on Tuesday in a doubleheader and unfortunately were not able to come away with a win.
