MANSFIELD — They are the terrific trio.
Shelby's Eve Schwemley, Clear Fork's Mel Blubaugh and Lexington's Makaree Chapman were named the 2024-25 Mansfield News Journal Girls Basketball Players of the Year.
Schwemley was named the Division IV Northwest District, Division IV District 6 and the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year while earning first team All-Northwest District, first team All-District 6 and first team All-Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. She averaged 21.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.9 steals per game during a magical senior season that saw her help the Whippets win their seventh straight Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship. She will represent District 6 in the Divisions I-IV North-South All-Star Game in April and was selected as a first team All-Ohioan.
Blubaugh was the Division V Northwest District co-Player of the Year and the Division V District 6 Player of the Year while earning first team All-Northwest District, first team All-District 6 and first team All-Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference. She averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.8 steals and set several program records including 3-pointers in a season and total points in a season. She capped off a memorable senior season with first team All-Ohio honors.
Chapman averaged 20.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.4 steals and earned first team All-Northwest District, first team All-District 6 and first team All-Ohio Cardinal Conference honors during a huge senior season that also netted her first team All-Ohio honors.
