Reporter senses Panthers will take pass catcher 'fairly early' in 2025 NFL draft

The Carolina Panthers could look to add a wide receiver or tight end early in the 2025 NFL draft. But according to Joe Person of The Athletic, they may not try it too early.

On Tuesday, Person laid out his biggest takeaways from the team's media availability at the annual league meetings. And after hearing what head coach Dave Canales had to say about his contentment with the current state of the offense, the longtime Panthers beat writer noted the following:

The Panthers have a top-30 visit scheduled with Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan and will do their due diligence on Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. There are several other intriguing tight ends behind Warren, including Michigan’s Colston Loveland, LSU’s Mason Taylor and Miami’s Elijah Arroyo.

It might not be at 8, but my sense is the Panthers will find another pass catcher for Young fairly early in the draft.

Carolina is currently in possession of the draft's eighth overall pick. If the Panthers hope to nab either McMillan or Warren, perhaps the very top two pass catchers of the entire class, then they'd likely have to use that very selection to do so.

If they decide to trade down, a prospect president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan has previously teased, then the possibilities for a weapon would open up. Depending on their positioning after such a move, Loveland, Texas' Matthew Golden and Missouri's Luther Burden III may be under consideration at that point.

Along with that eighth pick, the Panthers also hold the 57th (second round) and 74th (third round) overall selections.
