Derek Carr may have already thrown his last pass in a New Orleans Saints uniform. If that's the case, Spencer Rattler is ready to seize the opportunity Carr's absence presents. NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reports that Rattler will be at the team facility Monday for the start of the Saints' voluntary offseason program. Every rep he takes this offseason could help his case to lead the offense out of the tunnel when the season starts in September.
Rattler has been busy this offseason. His personal trainer shared footage of his workouts back home in Arizona, including a throwing session with first-round wide receiver prospect Tetairoa McMillan (who played college ball in-state for the Wildcats). He's also chosen a new jersey number, switching from the No. 18 he wore in his rookie year to the bold No. 2. He's clearly looking to assert himself in 2025 now that a new regime is taking over under first-year head coach Kellen Moore.
Now, how the Saints approach the 2025 draft in a few weeks is sure to disrupt Rattler's plans. If the Saints draft a quarterback at No. 9 (like Shedeur Sanders, out of Colorado)? You'd probably bet on Shough in that competition, but Rattler would surely bet on himself. And if the Saints wait even further and pick a rookie in rounds three or four? You'd have to think Rattler would like those odds.
Either way, he'll be ready for whatever Moore and his coaching staff are preparing to throw at him. Rattler showed some nice traits in his rookie season even if he didn't find the results he was hoping for. The Saints didn't win a game he appeared in, and he went 0-6 as a starter. He threw more interceptions than touchdowns. But Moore has stressed the importance of giving ...
