Report: Junior forward Xavier Amos enters transfer portal after one season with Wisconsin men's basketball

MADISON – After the Wisconsin basketball program announced that Nolan Winter and Jack Janicki would return next season, Xavier Amos seemed to be the next man up.

The 6-foot-8 forward played in every game last season and had some of his best moments late in the year.

We learned Monday afternoon that he will build on that promising finish elsewhere. According to 247SportsPortal, the Chicago native has entered the transfer portal. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Amos joined the Badgers last spring after playing his first two seasons at Northern Illinois. He averaged 3.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 9.6 minutes per game for UW. He shot 37.4% overall and had a .294 (20 of 68) three-point field goal percentage.

In addition to scoring inside the paint and beyond the arc, Amos showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and get shots as well as provide a presence defensively on and off the ball. His playing time was impacted by the quality of play of senior Carter Gilmore, who never relinquished the role of top big off the bench.

Amos had a season-high of 12 points in a win over Washington on Feb. 25 and recorded 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting with four rebounds in a NCAA tournament first-round victory over Montana.

However in a second-round loss to BYU, Amos played 6 minutes and didn’t score.

Amos is the biggest loss the Badgers have suffered in the portal. Guards Camren Hunter, Daniel Freitag and Aidan Konop and forward Chris Hodges previously entered the portal.
