Before the Eagles acquired Dorian Thompson-Robinson in trade with the Cleveland Browns, they inquired about another young, developmental quarterback.
The New England Patriots traded second-year QB Joe Milton and a 7th-round draft pick to the Cowboys on Monday in exchange for a 5th-round pick. Before the trade, however, several teams inquired about Milton, including the Eagles.
The Patriots allowed Milton to decide his next destination, landing him in Dallas and eliminating Philadelphia. Once the Eagles received word of New England's plans, they instead traded Kenny Pickett to the Browns for Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Backup quarterback has long been a valued position in Philadelphia, and Joe Milton plays a similar playstyle to starter Jalen Hurts.
According to Mark Daniels of MassLive.com, Milton wanted to leave New England for a better chance to compete. Since the Eagles have a franchise quarterback in place, coming to Philadelphia wasn't in the cards.
Milton showed starter potential last season, completing 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a TD in his lone start.
