There has been plenty of trade talk surrounding New England Patriots backup quarterback Joe Milton III without so much as a peep from his camp.
Granted, the situation is completely out of Milton's control, but one has to wonder what he must be feeling as the subject of trade rumors. If he is traded, does he have a preferred landing spot?
According to a recent report from Mass Live's Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian, the former University of Tennessee standout would prefer to go to a team that gives him the best chance to start at quarterback.
Daniels and Guregian wrote:
"A source close to the quarterback said Milton would prefer to be on a roster that best gives him a chance to compete for the starting job."
Unless catastrophe strikes, Drake Maye is the leading man at quarterback for the Patriots. The best Milton could hope for is likely the top backup job.
New England has reportedly received multiple trade inquiries on Milton.
Teams could turn to the Patriots' young backup with the 2025 NFL draft having limited options at the quarterback position. Milton showed promise when knocking off the Buffalo Bills in the regular season finale.
He went 22-of-29 passing for 241 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 16 yards and a touchdown. It was an impressive performance that could set the Patriots up for a nice return on their 2024 sixth-round investment.
