The New England Patriots are reportedly trading Joe Milton III and a seventh-round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth-round pick, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
There have been trade talks surrounding Milton throughout the offseason, especially after the Patriots signed free agent quarterback Joshua Dobbs.
New England is a rebuilding football team looking to gather as much draft capital as possible ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. So it would make sense for them to deal Milton away when they already have Drake Maye as their franchise quarterback.
The Patriots drafted Milton in 2024 with a sixth-round pick.

A fifth-round pick for a sixth-rounder is obviously a winning return on the team's investment, but some would argue that they should have gotten more for Milton, especially if his talent exceeds the pick value.
Milton will now go to a Cowboys team where he'll serve as the new backup quarterback to Dak Prescott.
