Former Tennessee quarterbacks Josh Dobbs and Joe Milton III will not play together in New England this season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN announced the Patriots are trading Milton III and a 2025 NFL draft seventh round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 NFL draft fifth round pick. New England signed Dobbs in March.
Dallas is in need of a backup quarterback for Dak Prescott after Cooper Rush signed with the Ravens.
Milton III was selected 193rd overall by New England in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft. He guided the Patriots to a, 23-16, win over the Buffalo in 2024, totaling 241 passing yards one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.
The 6-foot-5, 246-pound quarterback appeared in 29 games for the Vols from 2021-23. He completed 314-of-498 passing attempts for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and five interceptions, while rushing for 505 yards and nine touchdowns.
Milton III completed 229-of-354 passing attempts for 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions during the 2023 regular season. He also rushed for 299 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 attempts
Milton III began his collegiate career under head coach Jim Harbaugh at Michigan in 2018.
