Despite competing for three titles this season, Real Madrid are already planning ahead for the upcoming season, and according to a recent report from AS, the club has identified three key areas that require reinforcement.
These are the right-back position, a central defender, and a midfielder. The names being considered for these roles are familiar ones, with two of them gaining significant traction in recent weeks.
For the right-back slot, Real Madrid appear to have made swift progress with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has reached an agreement to join the Spanish giants once his contract with Liverpool expires in June.
It is said that the club views him as a perfect long-term solution on the right side of defence and a natural successor to Dani Carvajal.
Young centre-back and midfield general on radar
The second position Real Madrid are eager to reinforce is at the heart of the defence. Their top choice is Dean Huijsen, a 19-year-old defender who has been making waves in the Premier League.
However, acquiring him won’t be straightforward, as he is tied to a long-term contract with Bournemouth lasting until 2030 and has a release clause set at around €58 million.
Despite the financial complexity, Madrid remain strongly interested in bringing the young defender to the Santiago Bernabéu.
In midfield, the club’s attention is on Martin Zubimendi. The 26-year-old Spanish international has been a consistent performer and is admired not only by Real Madrid but also by Barcelona and Arsenal.
His contract runs until 2027, and he has a €60 million buyout clause. Real Madrid see him as a potential replacement for Luka Modric and a player who can bring balance, defensive discipline, and composure to their engine room.
For now, it is becoming clear that Real Madrid are preparing to spend strategically. With one player already on the verge of joining and two others on the shortlist, Los Blancos are determined to maintain their competitive edge across all fronts.
