The ongoing season has not gone as planned for Real Madrid and the repercussions for such instability at the club are usually severe.

Serious changes are expected in June with Carlo Ancelotti’s departure now a serious option. Changes in the squad too, however, will take place in full flow.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and a central defender are expected to join the club and beef up the defence while other stars may well be dropped by the club.

In a recent report, AS confirmed two such players who are on their way out.

End of their Real Madrid days?

As related by the Spanish outlet, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez are both closer to leaving Real Madrid at this point than staying at the club.

The end of the current season could thus mark the end of an era with the midfield maestro and club captain set to call it time. After all, their contracts end in June.

Modric has been instrumental to Ancelotti’s plans all season and has been ever-reliable in midfield. At his age, however, he can no longer accumulate many minutes and the club requires more dynamic and younger profiles.

Despite the player’s initial desire to stay and renew his contract by one year, Modric may leave the club and mark the end of his magical stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vazquez’s case, meanwhile, is likely a direct consequence of Alexander-Arnold’s potential arrival and the impact it will have on his minutes.

The player has had unprecedented prominence this season with Dani Carvajal out injured and no other right-back in the squad.

With Carvajal set to return and Alexander-Arnold looking like a likely arrival, he could well be relegated to third choice and thus leave for greener pastures.
