Rams take Shedeur Sanders in new CBS Sports mock draft

The Los Angeles Rams could be in search of their next franchise quarterback. There has been a lot of reports indicating the Rams could bring in a rookie to sit behind Matthew Stafford — from Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart to Texas' Quinn Ewers or late-round prospects like Syracuse's Kyle McCord or Oregon's Dillon Gabriel.

However, CBS Sports' Kyle Stackpole has another name in mind for the Rams' No. 26 pick: Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

While the overwhelming consensus sees Sanders as a top-10 pick, there has been some speculation that he could fall to later in the first round or even into the second round. That, plus Sanders' high-profile father, Deion Sanders, has floated the idea that his son will only play for certain NFL teams.

This is where the perfect marriage of Sanders and the Rams would come into play. Sanders would join a popular and well-run franchise in a big city and media market while not having to deliver on any promises of production until Stafford is gone. The Rams, meanwhile, get a true heir to Stafford on a rookie contract. Sanders looks like a great NFL prospect, too, there are just some concerns with his ability to step into the limelight immediately.

There is no way to sugarcoat this: Drafting Sanders this late would be a coup for the Rams.It is also incredibly unlikely given the other teams who have quarterback needs ahead of the Rams.

The Cleveland Browns at No. 2 and the New York Giants at No. 3 are the two most obvious teams who are expected to be at least interested in Sanders, while other clubs like the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21 are currently without a starter (but are in the hunt for Aaron Rodgers). There are a few others that are in the same boat as the Rams — aging starter with no succession plan — who could also scoop up Sanders if he falls.
