Polson, Ronan thinclads shine in Frenchtown

Mar. 30—FRENCHTOWN — The Corvallis boys and Dillon girls won the team titles at the Frenchtown Invitational track and field meet Saturday, but some Northwest A athletes were able to shine.

One highlight was the duel between Browning's River Racine and Polson's David DiGiallonardo in the boys 1,600. Racine won in 4 minutes, 39.51 seconds; DiGiallonado clocked 4:40.61.

Polson's Astin Brown had an impressive day, sweeping the shot put (58 feet, 9 inches) and discus (159-0). Both those marks lead Class A, and he leads all classes in the shot.

Corvallis scored 81 points to 77 for Hamilton and 71 for Frenchtown. Polson was fourth at 43; Ronan was in 11th with 24.

Ronan's Connor Durglo won the long jump with a mark of 20-7 and was second to Frenchtown's Leighton Cyr in the triple jump. Cyr marked 43-8.5; Durglo went 43-3.5.

Hamilton's Evan Bennett ran the state's fastest 800 regardless of class: 1:58.90. Three Forks' Cass Violett did the same for the 3,200, clocking 9:33.05.

Corvallis' Hunter Loesch won the javelin with a throw of 186-8; that leads all classes. His teammate Stuart Brennan leapt 21-4 to win the long jump and that leads all classes as well.

Dillon won the girls team title with 92 points, to 82 for Havre and 71 for Frenchtown. Polson was fifth at 53.

One marquee race on the girls' side was the 800, where Hamilton's Annalise Lewis clocked an impressive 2:20.48 time to lead Class A, while Polson standout Morgan Delaney came in at 2:29.34. Both are sophomores; Lewis won the 400 Saturday with in a Class A-best 1:00.74 and Delaney won the 1,600 in a Class A-best time of 5:21.85.

The Pirates' Kimoro Scott, a freshman, won the 3,200 in an all-class best 12:06.53.

Three more girls took over the state's lead in their events Saturday: Hamilton's Aubrey Korst (11-6, tied for best in the pole vault); Dillon's Isabella Regan (shot put, 40-10.5); and Havre's Kaydance Reiter (25,65 in the 200).
