Beavers shine at SJU Optimistic Meet

Mar. 31—COLLEGEVILLE — The Bemidji State women's track and field team dominated at Friday's Optimistic Meet hosted by Saint John's.

On the track, the Beavers grabbed eight top-10 finishes with three second-place nods. Mille Rosaeg took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.20 seconds. She was followed by Josie Aitkenm who also found a spot in the top 10 with an eighth-place finish at 27.70 seconds.

Also grabbing a second-place finish, Sophie Rylance found the front of the pack in the 1,500-meter run with a sub five-minute time (4:59.86). The Beavers' 4x400-meter relay team dominated the track with a 4:23.64 time, grabbing 80th in the Division II rankings.

Bemidji State throwers started the outdoor season with a bang, grabbing multiple NCAA Division II top-100 marks, including Zayda Priebe's No. 39 discus throw of 42.63 meters and Mikenna Pattrin's No. 32 shot put throw of 12.77 meters. Priebe and Pattrin each took first in at least one event with Priebe grabbing the top spot for discus and Pattrin taking the javelin throw and shot put.

On the jumping and vaulting side of the field events, Olivia Olson marked a pole vault of 3.27 meters, taking sixth and the No. 64 vault in NCAA DII rankings. Natalee Hoffner and Rosaeg both took home personal bests in the high jump with a difference of just 0.03 meters between the two jumps. Hoffner's 1.53-meter leap grabbed her third place while Rosaeg's 1.50 meter landed her in seventh.

The Beavers now prepare for the Norse Invite on April 4-5 in Decorah, Iowa, hosted by Luther College. They'll then head to fellow NSIC competitor Minnesota State on April 11-12, along with the North Dakota State Open on the same dates.
