Love them or hate them, the Chicago Bears have one of the most iconic uniforms in all of the NFL. They also have some standout throwback options that they like to don on occasion. But there is one particular throwback uniform the team has stored in the closet over the last few years, and given the NFL's latest uniform policy change, it's time for the Bears to bring it back into rotation.
On Monday at the annual NFL owners meetings, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the league is amending their uniform policy so teams can wear alternate or throwback jerseys up to four times per season. Previously, teams could only wear different uniforms up to three times in a year.

The Bears, like every NFL team not named the Kansas City Chiefs, have a couple of alternate options they have been using over the last few seasons. They have an orange alternate jersey they brought back into rotation in 2020 that pairs with an orange helmet, as well as their 1936 white throwback uniforms that debuted in 2019.
Then there are the throwback uniforms from the 1940s the Bears wore throughout the 2010s. The simplistic, yet sharp, navy jerseys with the bold orange lettering were seen at Soldier Field a few times per season for the better part of a decade. But when the Bears debuted their 1936 white throwbacks, the 1940s uniforms were put away and haven't been used since 2018. Given that the NFL is allowing teams to wear their alternate uniforms more often, the Bears should seriously consider bringing these beauties back.
In order to make room for the 1940s throwbacks, the Bears would need to take one of the alternate options out of rotation. Though the league expanded the number of times alternate uniforms can be worn, teams are still limited to just four jersey options: classic home, classic away, alternate, and throwback. Seeing as the Bears recently introduced their orange helmet to pair with the orange jerseys, it seems unlikely they would remove that combo, which means the 1936 uniforms would need to be shelved.
Does a jersey make the product on the field any better? Scientifically, no. But it makes the product look better, and this is something fans have been asking to see for years. And not for nothing, but the last time the 1940s uniforms were worn, Chicago went on to win the NFC North that same season. Plus, it's another way for the Bears and the NFL to make more money. Surely, thousands of fans would love to have a Caleb Williams or Rome Odunze jersey with those bold orange letters and numbers.
Throwback jerseys aren't exactly at the top of the 2025 offseason priority list for the Chicago Bears. But they have checked off multiple needs up to this point, from securing the top head coach available to overhauling their ...
