Gordon, a second-round selection out of Washington in the 2022 NFL Draft, was Ryan Poles' first draft pick as Bears general manager. After moving around the secondary during his rookie season, Gordon settled in as the team's nickel cornerback, where he showed an innate ability to make plays at the line of scrimmage.
Through three seasons, Gordon has totaled five interceptions, two forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks, and nine tackles for loss while becoming one of the better nickel corners in the league. He's an integral member of the secondary and will be counted on going forward, along with fellow cornerback Jaylon Johnson, in Dennis Allen's new defense.
Poles previously stated that extending Gordon was a priority for the team as he entered the final year of his rookie deal, so this felt like a move that was going to happen at some point this offseason. Now that it's all but official, Bears fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Here is how social media reacted to the news:
King Poles stuff. Kyler is now the 21st-highest paid cornerback in the NFL. Basis set when Jalen Pitre signed a 3 year, $39M contract with Texans.

The official recognition and improved compensation of the Nickel/Slot CB reflects the importance of the 3rd corner. With teams operating primarily out of “11” personnel, the need for a 3rd CB on the field with a specific set of skills needed to play inside has forced teams to… https://t.co/PYSqHafooq
