As we inch closer to the 2025 NFL draft, it's becoming more and more clear that the New York Giants will select one of four players with the third overall pick.
Quarterbacks Cam Ward of Miami and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders reportedly remain high on the Giants' board, but two other players, Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, are also right up there.
In Pro Football Focus' latest mock draft from John Kosko, the Giants select Hunter after Ward and Carter are taken with the first two picks.
It’s uncertain whether the fans view Hunter as a cornerback or a wide receiver, but the top player on PFF's big board is what the Giants fans want. Pairing him with Malik Nabers would create a fun tandem. And if New York views him as a cornerback, spending this pick on a premium position where the team lacks star power isn’t the worst idea, either.
Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, just might be the best player in the draft. He is surely one of the most unique, and when selecting this high in the draft, that is what teams should be looking for -- a player they normally would not have a shot at.
Kosko has the Giants bypassing Sanders, something many don't see them doing. The Giants' major quest this offseason was to fill up their quarterback room, and general manager Joe Schoen has done that by re-signing Tommy DeVito and adding veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency.
But one piece remains: A potential franchise quarterback of the future. That could be Sanders, especially if he masters his pro day on Friday.
The catch there is that Hunter is also participating in that pro day. NFL executives and scouts could walk away from those workouts with stars in their eyes, which could lead to a slew of teams looking to trade up.
As for Cleveland, it's hard to fathom them passing on Sanders after owner Jimmy Haslem basically wrote Deshaun Watson off in a recent interview. Carter is a great player with a ton of potential, but don't they already have Myles Garrett?
Hunter truly would add a high degree of dynamism to the Giants in all three phases of the game. He is the one player that the team would regret passing on. In this mock, they don't.
