Spring sports got geared up in the Monroe County Region last week as schools returned from spring break.
Despite some mid-week rain that interrupted the action, there were plenty of outstanding performances.
That created a strong cast of candidates for the March 31-April 6 Athlete of the Week Award.

Jaxon Bolster, Ida boys track and field: Won pole vault at the Hillsdale Jack Beilfuss Early Season Invitational with a leap of 12-6.
Ryan Burgor, Airport baseball: Recorded three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs during a win over Plymouth Christian.
Camryn Cousino, Jefferson-Erie Mason soccer: Netted two goals and an assist to lead the Bears to a 3-1 win over Dundee and also had the only goal in a 1-0 win over Onsted.
Max Flint, SMCC lacrosse: Scored four times in a 7-6 victory over Jackson.
Bret Gennoe, Jefferson baseball: Logged two hits in each game to lead a sweep of Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.
Julia Hughes, Ida girls track and field: Won both hurdle races at the Hillsdale Jack Beilfuss Early Season Invitational, including a meet and school-record time of :15.66 in the highs.
Taylor Konkus, Gibraltar Carlson softball: Rang up three hits and two RBI in a win over Milan.
Briley Lechner, Monroe soccer: Tallied two goals to help the Trojans come back from a two-goal deficit to beat Adrian.
Madi McClain, Ida softball: Went 5-for-6 with a double, triple and 5 RBI in a 14-4, 9-4 sweep of Sand Creek.
Isaak Rubley, Dundee boys track and field: Won the 1,600 and placed second in the 800 at the Clinton Redwolves Invitational and also won two evens during a dual-meet win over Summerfield.
Brennan Runyon, SMCC baseball: Blasted a three-run homer in the first inning and finished the game on the mound to save a 4-2 win over Whiteford.
Maddie Salenbien, Dundee girls track and field: Won the 100, 200 and 400 meters in a meet against Blissfield then was second in both the 100 and 200 at the Clinton Redwolves Invitational.
