Trey McKenney, Michigan basketball’s top-rated incoming freshman recruit in its 2025 class and the recently named Michigan Mr. Basketball, took his game to the international level this week as one of the last additions to Team USA and didn’t just survive, but thrived.
The 6-foot-4 225-pound combo guard, was a standout in Team USA’s 124-114 win over Team World in the Nike Hoops Summit on Saturday in Portland, Oregon, putting up 22 points and four rebounds in the win.
McKenney’s numbers didn’t come on volume, either, but efficiency. The former Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s standout made seven of nine field goals, which included all three of his 3-point attempts, four of five free throws and an assist.
Among the other standouts for team USA were AJ Dybantsa (BYU) and Cameron Boozer (Duke) who are considered the top two prospects in the class and both reportedly inked to seven-figure deals for next year's campaign.
Another guard who popped off, Darius Acuff Jr., a Detroit native who left for IMG Academy and became a top-12 prospect before he pledged to Arkansas. McKenney and Acuff squared off earlier this season when both showed out in Detroit as McKenney scored 37, but Acuff who had 32, got the last laugh in a 67-62 win.
McKenney is rated the No. 1 player in Michigan, the No. 3 combo guard in the nation and the No. 17 overall player in the 2025 class, per 247Sports' composite ranking. He's one of three incoming freshman for the Wolverines, along with four-stars Winters Grady and
