Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha reportedly wants a move to Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
United are aiming to restructure their squad this summer to be more suited to the demands of Ruben Amorim’s football philosophy.
United are bracing for big changes across the board, but the attacking department stands out as a pressing concern. The team’s goal return has been underwhelming, with their three main attacking outlets—Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho—producing just 10 Premier League goals collectively.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that club executives are well aware of the need to strengthen their attacking options and are eager to finalise moves for both Matheus Cunha and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
Cunha is viewed as an ideal candidate to slot into one of the No. 10 roles in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
The Brazilian has a £62.5m release clause contained in the deal he signed with Wolves in February but this has done little to ward off suitors. In addition to United, Cunha has also been linked to Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.
Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that the Magpies have enquired about the possibility of signing Cunha but the player wants United.
According to Jacobs, “GIVEMESPORT sources can confirm that the Magpies have made contact with the representatives of Cunha ahead of a potential summer move, to gauge his interest over a transfer.”
“However, it’s believed that Cunha would prefer a move to Old Trafford instead as he wants to sign for one of the Premier League’s traditional big-six clubs if he is to leave Wolves.”
Jacobs’ information has been corroborated by Eduardo Burgos of Spanish news outlet Diario AS.
Burgos wrote on X, “Newcastle has inquired in recent weeks about the situation of Matheus Cunha. He is the priority.”
“The player will leave Wolves this summer, guaranteed. The idea is to join a ‘Big Six’ club, with Manchester United as the big favourites.”
“Release clause: €70M. A tempting prospect.”
