Manchester United teenager Chido Obi-Martin will receive a call-up for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The 17-year-old signed for the Red Devils last summer after spending the last two campaigns at Arsenal’s academy. He started the season with United’s U18 team, but his rapid development saw him called up for the U21 squad on some occasions, and even had a run with the first team earlier this season.
Chido has thus far made three brief cameos with the first team, and also gained 54 minutes in the FA Cup defeat to Fulham. However, the Dane hasn’t been able to take part in the Europa League since he wasn’t included in the squad.
According to Man Utd insider Sully, Obi-Martin could be set to play an important role in Man Utd’s away fixture against Newcastle, especially after being dropped from the U21 squad this weekend.
The teenager has thus far scored 14 goals and produced two assists across all competitions, but has yet to make a direct goal contribution with the first team. Nevertheless, his impressive showings against the likes of Everton and Fulham made him an instant fan favourite.

The youngster’s recurring involvement with the senior squad suggests that Amorim isn’t entirely happy with his attacking options.
Therefore, it won’t be surprising to see a few players relegated to the bench, especially following their disappointing showing in Thursday’s Europa League clash against Lyon.
For instance, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho were both ‘poor’ and ‘erratic’ according to Paul Scholes, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them both start on the bench.
While this might not necessarily mean Chido will be in the starting XI, perhaps the versatile youngster could, at some point during the second half, get the nod ahead of his compatriot Hojlund and the underwhelming Garnacho.
