Maddox DeLong slashed a two-base hit to drive in Tracer Brown with the winning run as Dwight walked off with a 5-4 Tri-County Conference baseball victory over Roanoke-Benson on Thursday at DTHS.
The Rockets had tied the game in the top of the seventh inning with a pair of runs. Brown led off the Trojans’ seventh with a hit and advanced to second on a Ryan Bumpous sacrifice bunt.
DeLong, the designated hitter, collected a double, single and drove in the key run for Dwight (7-2). Ayden Collom also had two hits and a run batted in while Joey Starks had a triple and drove in two runs. Owen Dunlap had a double and Evan Cox added a hit and RBI.
Brown got the win in relief, retiring the one batter he faced. Starks got the start and struck out eight. Jake Wilkey came on with one out in the seventh before yielding to Brown.
IVC 2, Pontiac 0 – At Chillicothe, Pontiac was limited to two hits dropping an Illini Prairie Conference baseball contest to host Illinois Valley Central Thursday. Tommy Ostermann and Drew Lauritsen each singled for PTHS (3-2). Mason Schlosser took the loss in going the distance. He allowed no earned runs, three hits and struck out five.
Monticello 6, Prairie Central 3 – At Fairbury, Prairie Central got off to a good start but was unable to mount much offense after the opening frame in dropping an Illini Prairie Conference tilt with Monticello at PCHS. Easton Friedman took the loss for the Hawks (2-6) in relief of starter Collin Hartman, who struck out six in five innings.
Lucas Steidinger had a double and drove in two runs in the first inning. Hartman had a hit and RBI.
Mount Pulaski 8, Pontiac 3 – At Pontiac, Mount Pulaski broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to post a nonconference victory over Pontiac on April 1. PTHS had tied the Hilltoppers with a pair of runs in the fourth inning and another tally in the fifth frame.
Aden Brummel had a double and two RBIs for Pontiac (3-3). Jackson Crawford added two singles. Ryson Eilts (3 strikeouts) took the loss on the bump in relief of Brummel (7 strikeouts).
Dwight 2, Roanoke-Benson 1 – At Roanoke, Luke Gallet’s fielder’s choice grounder with the bases loaded plated two runs in Dwight’s Tri-County Conference baseball game at Roanoke-Benson on April 1. This made it a 2-1 game and Gallet made the lead stand in the mound for a DTHS victory.
Gallet scattered seven hits and struck out nine in going the distance for the win. He had a run batted in at the plate. Joey Starks had two hits to lead the offense.
St. Bede 3, EPG 2 – At Peru, St. Bede scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to hand El Paso-Gridley a second straight last at-bat defeat in a nonconference tilt on April 1.
Dominic Ricconi had a hit and drove in a run for the Titans (2-6). Caden Castleman took the loss in relief. He struck out on in 1-plus innings. Owen Adams started, fanning three in five innings.
Pontiac 8, EPG 4 – At El Paso, Anderson Horning scored the go-head run on a Ryson Eilts grounder in the 10th inning to key a four-run rally that lifted Pontiac past host El Paso-Gridley in a nonconference baseball contest on March 31. PTHS scored four runs in the 10th. The game was tied at 2-2 after seven innings.
