The rain did a number on most of Thursday's sports schedule, but boys tennis got its match in, and of course, boys volleyball was secure inside.
Here are the highlights from Wednesday and Thursday.
Boys volleyball
Chillicothe 3, Grove City Volleyball Club Westland 0: The Cavaliers swept it 25-17, 25-15, 25-13. Mercer Cutright had 14 kills, Carter Dunfee had six, and Jeremyah Teurman and Jace Copley each had three. David Rourke had 24 assists. Mercer Cutright had four aces, Jace Copley had two, and Carter Dunfee and JB Maravilla each had one. JB Maravilla had two blocks as did Mercer Cutright, Jace Copley had one. Isaac Herlihy had 13 digs, while Mercer Cutright had eight.
The Cavs return home on Tuesday to play Westfall Varsity at 6 p.m.
Boys Tennis
Chillicothe 5, Miami Trace 0
At No 1. Noah Flores defeated Reilly Cambell 6-0, 6-0.At No 2. singles Elijah Yandilla defeated Titus Grim 6-0, 6-0.At No. 3 singles Benjamin Yandila defeated Zach Gallagher 6-0, 6-0.At No. 1 doubles Malachi Upshaw and Yohan Abreu defeated Levi Morrison and Slade Strider 6-2, 6-2.At No. 2 doubles Lyric Graves and Aeden Montalvo won by forfeit.
Softball
Paint Valley 7, North Adams 5: The visitors took the early 1-0 lead at the top of the first, but when the Bearcats came to bat - they got the lead and held it in the nonconference matchup. Sophia Stauffer hit a homer to right field to tie it up at her first at-bat. Delainey Mannion singled, followed by Kasarah Cantrell getting walked. Mannion advanced to third on a passed ball, and Mannion also moved up to second. After Kyla Littler walked, the bases were loaded. Lydia Hamilton then walked, which brought Mannion home. Cantrell was out at home after a fielder's choice. Then Haley Burton brought Littler and Hamilton home on a single to make it 4-1. Paint Valley would score three more in the second and then held off North Adams who scored one in the second inning and three in the fifth.
Cantrell earned a complete-game win, giving up five earned runs, and struck out four. She also went 2-of-3 with a run and a double. Stauffer went 2-of-4 with the homer and two stolen bases. Mannion went 2-of-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
Chillicothe 7, Miami Trace 2: Alyssa Dudley went 3-of-4 with two runs and drove in four runs in the win. She singled in a run in the first inning, but a big double in the second scored three of the runs. The Cavaliers scored all their runs in the first two innings. CJ Rittinger pitched another gem, striking out 12, allowing six hits, two runs and two walks.
