Liberty Union 7, Fairfield Union 5 (8innings): The Lions broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning when freshman Ryleigh Brown hit a two-run home run to center field in Liberty Union’s Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Falcons.
Liberty Union, the defending Division III state champions, improved to 5-0 overall. Suzie Shultz went 2 for 4, including a home run and two RBI for the Lions, and she also started in the circle, pitching four innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. Eden Wilson pitched the final four innings, giving up 1 hit, three runs while striking out six.
Sophomore Ella Harmon led the Falcons with two hits, including a home run, double, two RBI and two runs.
Fisher Catholic 6, Millersport 5: The Irish opened MSL-Cardinal Division play with a hard-fought win over the Lakers.
Harper Kline was 3 for 4 with two RBI along with Lucy Watkins knocking in two runs. Lylee Marcinko knocked in the winning run. Lauren Kersell picked up the win with nine strikeouts.
Kendyl Bonkowski took the loss for the Lakers. She pitched six-plus innings, giving up six runs, one earned, on seven hits, striking out six and walking two. Claire Haney and Ava Blevins each collected two hits for the Lakers.
Berne Union 21, Harvest Prep 0: The Rockets cruised in their win over the Warriors. Kori Hoplite led the way by going 3 for 4, including two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.
Rylee North had a hit and scored three runs, Mackenzie Fritz doubled and had an RBI, Aleah Smiley had a double and four RBI and Reese Besco had a and two RBI. Josilyn Hedges pitched three innings to pick up the win, giving up two hits, no runs while striking out three. Besco pitched two innings and struck out four.
BASEBALL
Lancaster 10, Reedsville Eastern 0: The Golden Gales improved to 3-0 after their nonconference win.
Kam Griffith led the way with three hits, including a two-run home run, the first ever at England Field, and he finished with four RBI. Aiden Henson, Levi Greiner and Coleson Ross added two hits each. Darren Ramsey pitched five shutout innings to pick his second win of the season. Cale Meyer pitched one inning in relief.
Fairfield Union 4, Liberty Union 1: The visiting Falcons scored two runs in the sixth to take the lead and added two more insurance runs in the seventh to edge the Lions in MSL-Buckeye Division play.
Ben Barringer went 2 for 3 for the Falcons and Chase Harmon had a hit and two RBI for the Falcons. Eli Wolfe started and picked up the win in five innings of work as he gave up three hits, one earned run and struck out four. Jacob Forson pitched two innings and didn’t allow a hit while striking out two.
