L/L-M boys' hoops get tight 43-40 win over M/P-B in R1 third place game
Mar. 13—JAMESTOWN — The LaMoure/Litchville-Marion boys' basketball team's season will last for at least one more day after a 43-40 win over Medina/Pingree-Buchanan in the 2025 NDHSAA Class B Region 1 Tournament third place game on Thursday, March 13, at the Jamestown Civic Center.
Early in the first quarter, the game was tied at nine points apiece before the Loboes went on a dominant run to take a 21-9 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Loboes were able to push it out to 23-9 early in the second quarter before the Thunder ended the run with a Terek Kinzell runner to bring it closer at 23-11. That basket completely flipped the game on its head as it sparked a run that saw the Thunder tie the game up at 23 late in the opening half. In the dying seconds, the Loboes' Mason Warcken split a pair at the line to give his team a 24-23 lead heading into the intermission.
In the first half, the Loboes shot 40% from the field, 2-for-7 from three and 2-for-3 from the free throw line. The Thunder shot 50% from the field, 3-for-6 from three and 0-for-2 from the charity stripe. The Thunder won the first half rebounding battle convincingly, outrebounding their opponents 16-9 overall. The Loboes' biggest advantage in the opening half came in their ability to turn turnovers into points with them scoring 13 points off 10 Thunder turnovers. The Thunder scored six points off three Loboes giveaways.
The third quarter started incredibly competitively with the Loboes taking an early 26-23 lead before the Thunder responded to take a 28-26 lead. The inciting incident for the Loboes to ake up in the third was a trip to the free throw line where Karlgaard split the pair to trim their deficit down to 28-27. Over the remainder of the quarter, the Loboes were able to do their best to pull away, taking a 36-28 lead into the final quarter.
