Lady Cougars wrap up title at Ada Tennis Tournament
The Ada High School girls tennis team won the team title at Tuesday’s Ada Tournament.
The Lady Cougars finished with 26 points and Duncan was runner-up at 21. The Byng Lady Pirates captured third place with 19 points and finished just ahead of Crossings Christian at 18. Elk City was fifth with 15 points.
The Ada boys finished fourth in the team standings with 15 points. Crossings Christian was the champion with 30 points and Duncan was second at 24. Elk City finished third at 22.
The Byng Pirates were sixth with 10 points.
ADA GIRLS
Ada won championships in No. 2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles and No. 2 Doubles.
Kylee Witt was the No. 2 Singles winner after edging old teammate Lilly Cadenhead of Byng by a 6-4, 6-0 count in the title match.
It was also an Ada versus Byng battle in the No. 1 Doubles championship match. The AHS duo of Jessi Bolin and Zoey Brown knocked off Byng’s Audrey Boatright and Jayci Cole 6-3, 6-0.
The Ada team of Taylor Cook and Jerzie O’Neal captured the No. 1 Doubles title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ava Miller and Gracie Thiebaud of Duncan.
In No. 1 Singles, Ada’s Baylee Boatwright dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Macy Hays of Crossings Christian in the fifth-place contest.
ADA BOYS
The Ada boys competed in three third-place matches at the tournament.
In No. 2 Doubles, the Elk City duo of Coslow and Brewer rallied past Ada’s Drake Cody and Leyton Jacobs 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 for third place.
Ada’s Gus Byrd finished fourth in No. 1 Singles after a tough 6-4, 6-1 loss to River Tate of Ducnan.
In the No. 2 Singles draw, Ada’s Andy Jolly dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Max Murry of Elk City in the third-place match.
Ada’s No. 1 Doubles team of Owen Moon and Matthew Anderson defeated Matt Lungstrum and Chris Whaley of McAlester 6-4, 6-2 to earn fifth-place honors.
BYNG GIRLS
Along with their pair of runner-up finishes, the Lady Pirates saw Emily Holloway drop a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision to Hadley Perrin of Durant in the No. 1 Singles third-place match.
In No. 2 Doubles, Byng’s Abi Canada and Kylee Hood knocked off Keel and Yeargang of Harrah 6-4, 6-3 in a fifth-place match.
BYNG BOYS
The Byng No. 1 Doubles team battled its way to the third-place match before falling to Cole Crimmins and Jason Mitchell of Duncan 6-3, 6-2.
Byng’s three other tournament entries lost fifth-place matchups.
The team of Luke Ballard and Nash Lee fell to Hester and Alex Jurkiewicz of McAlester 6-3, 6-2 in a fifth-place matchup.
Byng No. 1 Singles player Devon Smith fell to Wyatt Phillips of McAlester 6-1, 6-1 in a fifth-place contest.
Peyton Trammell of McAlester knocked off Logan Bratton of Byng 6-3, 6-2 for fifth place.
