Ada girls tee off at 5A Preview tournament
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Ada High School girls golf team got an early look at some of the top teams in Class 5A this spring Wednesday at the Class 5A State Preview hosted by the Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The same course will host the 5A State Tournament and the same teams that finished at the top of the standings Wednesday.
Carl Albert won the 5A Preview championship after shooting a 347. Duncan was runner-up at 352 and Bishop McGuinness was third at 357.
Ada settled in the fourth spot with a 371 and Bishop Kelley was fifth at 380 in the 15-team field.
“I was pleased with our first outing. Even though everyone had lineup changes from last year to this year, we finished about where I
thought,” Ada head coach Ron Anderson told The Ada News. “The girls know they could have played better, but this experience gives us an idea of where we stand with the other class 5A teams. It looks like it’s going to be the same four or five teams competing again this year for the state title.”
Anderson said it was good for his group to get to get familiar with the Lincoln Park course.
“It’s clearly an advantage to play on the course hosting the state tournament, however, the conditions will be much different in May than they were Wednesday,” he said. “Lincoln Park is a great venue for the state tournament and now we know the layout.”
Kenli Wade of Lawton McArthur won the medalist crown after firing a 79 She edged Kanynn Kaseca of Shawnee, who also shot a 79. in a scorecard playoff. Lily Thomas of Duncan was third at 80 and Amelia Johnson of Bishop Kelley was fourth at 81.
Ada freshman Liberty Bridgeman finished sixth after shooting an 83. Ada senior Brooklyn Black just missed a Top 10 finish, landing in the 12th spot with an 88.
“I was very proud of Liberty and Brooklyn. For the first tournament, they were great,” Anderson said.
Kenzie Qualls shot a 96 for Ada followed by Bella Stowers at 104 and Natalie Jussely at 114. Freshman Lila Willis played the tournament for Ada as an individual and carded a 109.
“I was impressed with her composure competing in her first-ever high school tournament,” Anderson said.
The Lady Cougars are back in action March 27 at the Dickson Tournament hosted by the Lake Murray Resort Golf Course.
