Jon Scheyer updates Maliq Brown injury status before Duke vs Mount St Mary's in 2025 NCAA Tournament
RALEIGH — Maliq Brown status for Duke basketball is uncertain for the 2025 men’s NCAA Tournament, but it doesn't look like Brown will be available for at least the first weekend of March Madness.
The top-ranked Blue Devils (31-3) and No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary’s (23-12) play Friday (2:50 p.m., CBS) at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.
"As far as Maliq goes, can't give you any more other than, look, he wants to do whatever he can to get back and have a chance to play. I'm lucky to be coaching all these guys where they have that attitude," Scheyer said Thursday at the Lenovo Center.
"I don't know if that's going to happen, but that's his mindset, that's our mindset to do everything we can to just give it a chance if we can continue to progress in this tournament. Can't give you more than that, because I don't know more than that, but that's the mindset for him and for us."
Duke had a 40-minute practice in front of fans on Thursday, spending most of that time going through stretching and drills. Brown was in warmup gear and wasn't wearing a sling on his left arm, but he didn't participate in the workout.

Brown, one of the Blue Devils’ top players off the bench, has missed 10 games. He missed four games earlier in the season with a knee injury and missed six more with a dislocated shoulder, which he re-injured in Duke's opening game of the ACC Tournament.
With his ability as a defensive disruptor and underrated playmaking, the 6-foot-9 forward has been an X-factor for the Blue Devils throughout the season. He leads the team in deflections as arguably the most versatile defender on the roster, capable of switching all five positions.
