Broncos salary cap update after NFL free agency

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton worked some salary cap magic this spring.

The Broncos brought in three big free agents in safety Talanoa Hufanga, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and tight end Evan Engram. Those players have $3.41 million, $5.81 million, and $5.95 million salary cap hits this season, respectively, adding up to a combined cap hit of just $15.18 million in 2025.

Denver had around $41.5 million in cap space going into free agency. After signing five outside players and re-signing five in-house free agents, the Broncos still have some cap space to spare. The exact number depends on who you ask.

OverTheCap.com lists $17,415,270 in remaining cap space for Denver. Spotrac.com has a lower number at $14,117,141. The average of those two is about $15.76 million. Whatever the exact number is, not all of it is available to spend.

Spotrac estimates the Broncos will need about $4.21 million in top 51 cap space for the team's draft pool (Denver holds seven draft picks). Subtracted from Spotrac's number, that would leave Denver with around $10 million, and that's about how much the team likes to take into the fall to allow wiggle room for in-season signings and players going on injured reserve.

So -- barring some restructures or roster cuts -- the Broncos are just about out of unallocated cap space. Denver might make another budget signing or two, but the splashes seem to be over. Now attention turns toward the 2025 NFL draft (April 24-26).
