Bears' updated 2025 salary cap space after first wave of free agency
The Chicago Bears made a slew of moves during the first week of NFL free agency, where they focused on shoring up the trenches on offense and defense.
Protecting quarterback Caleb Williams is of utmost importance, after he was sacked a league-high 68 times during his rookie season, and the Bears overhauled the entire interior offensive line with the additions of Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson and Drew Dalman.
Getting after the quarterback remains a focal point for new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, and the additions of Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo were big moves to shore up pass rush alongside Montez Sweat.
Following the first wave of free agency, where does Chicago stand with the salary cap?
Bears' updated 2025 salary cap after first wave of free agency
The Bears were quite active during the first week of free agency, where they traded for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson (while also inking Jackson to a one-year extension) and signed center Drew Dalman, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. Chicago had roughly $80 million in salary cap space before those moves. Now, they're sitting with $16.11 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap. But that doesn't include the cap hits of tight end Durham Smythe or wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, as we're still waiting on contract details.
