Jameis Winston bids Cleveland a heartfelt farewell

Jameis Winston has said farewell to the Cleveland Browns after just one season.

Winston signed a free agency deal with the New York Giants, inking a two-year deal to act as Russell Wilson's backup quarterback in the Big Apple.

Typically, farewell messages are for players who are leaving their teams after fruitful careers. For Winston, his heartfelt goodbye post on social media read like he was a career Brown, signifying his influence on the team and the impact the organization had on him in just one season.

Winston signed a two-year deal with the New York Giants in free agency, leaving Cleveland after seven starts. Although his time with the Browns was short, it had a few memorable moments, such as the win over their rival, Pittsburgh, in the snow that he specifically mentioned in the post.

“One moment I’ll never forget — beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football in what turned out to be the most iconic snow game in NFL history. The energy, the emotion, the unity — we all felt it. That night was Cleveland at its finest,” he said.

Winston isn’t wrong. After the whirlwind of a bad season, culminating in the end of the DeShaun Watson era, Cleveland needed a victory like the one on that Thursday night.

His stint was not a perfect one. The Browns still went 2-5 with Winston as a starter and nearly fell to the bottom of the league standings. But, in a way, that’s still what this team needed. Instead of winning a few games like the Giants and Patriots, the Browns are positioned to select their elite prospect of choice, while New York and New England hope for a scrap.

Not to mention that he did it in his brand of entertaining play. Cleveland may not have beaten Denver on Monday Night Football, but Winston put on a show with 497 yards and four touchdowns, allowing Jerry Jeudy to get his revenge against his former team with 235 yards and a score of his own.

In a lost season, Winston was the perfect quarterback to keep Browns fans invested. And as all leaders do, he leaves his situation better than he found it.
