Jahni Kerr, No. 9 FSU softball dominate at-bats to complete a clean sweep at Cal

No. 9 Florida State softball (40-6, 14-1) completed its California trip in the most dominating way on Sunday after running over Cal (27-14, 6-9), 16-3 in five innings, to complete a three-game sweep.

FSU outscored Cal 35-7 throughout the series. Head coach Lonni Alameda couldn't ask for a better day to knock the balls out of the park. After leading 5-2 in the fourth, FSU scored 11 runs in the top fifth.

With 16 hits and 16 runs, the Seminoles recorded four home runs, half of which went to senior Jahni Kerr.

Then, she followed up with an RBI single for a one-run scored. She clinched the game with a grand slam in the top of the fifth to put FSU in play for a run-rule. Kerr finished the day going 3 for 5 with 6 RBI, a career-high for the senior.

Kerr was not the only one hot at-bats. Both Katie Dack and Ashtyn Danley homered for the Seminoles. Dack, whose home run was in the third inning, finished with two hits and three RBI.

Danley's two-run homer in third was her second straight home run in two days. Danley and Jaysoni Beachum tied with two RBIs.

Danley also became the winning pitcher after relieving for Makenna Reid, who played through two innings. Both Danley and Reid each threw two strikeouts. Mimi Gooden closed out the game. Danley is 10-1.
