While not a huge surprise, but if you're holding out hope that Travis Hunter could be available at pick No. 5 for the Jacksonville Jaguars, those already smallish odds appear to be dwindling.
Following Colorado's recent Pro Day, which included a number of representatives from both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported that within the league circles, the Browns appear to be honing in on Hunter with the second overall selection.
"In fact, there’s a growing belief around the league that Hunter is the favorite to go to the Cleveland Browns with the No. 2 pick, according to high-ranking executives and coaches," Howe wrote via Browns Wire. "The Browns have been high on Hunter throughout the process, according to sources. And as he went through his route tree Friday during warmups, Browns general manager Andrew Berry watched intently from 10 yards away."
The murky path that would need to exist in order for the Jaguars to have a chance at landing Hunter would have to include two quarterbacks going inside the top four, Abdul Carter being another pick, and the New England Patriots choosing an offensive tackle.
But that already unlikely scenario took a hit even before the Colorado Pro Day, when Adam Schefter mentioned on his podcast that both the Browns and Giants appear to be looking elsewhere instead of the quarterback position.
Having Hunter on the Jaguars would provide a big boost at both cornerback and wide receiver--two positions of need for Jacksonville--providing added playmaking abilities on both sides of the ball.
"Having patience with each side of ball," said Liam Coen, via Jaguars on SI, when asked about Hunter playing both ways, "because you really don't want to kind of put him in a box. You really just want to, ‘Hey, what does he come in and do the best?’ You're going to be able to let him do both, so you're going to find out what he's best at and then, ‘Hey, let's mold things to that and be fluid for those conversations."
However, those already seemingly slim chances of that happening are evaporating into nothing.
