Inter Milan are still in the race to sign Lille and Canada striker Jonathan David, and have made new contacts with the striker’s entourage.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri have put a €5 million net per season offer on the table.
Inter Milan have shown their interest in signing Lille striker Jonathan David for months.
The 25-year-old looks set to be the most high profile free transfer opportunity of the summer.
And Inter are certainly a club with a propensity for such signings. That is the route via which Hakan Calhanoglu and Andre Onana arrived at the club, to name just a couple.
And it is also how Inter Milan signed Marcus Thuram two summers ago.
The Nerazzurri are still holding out hope that their pursuit of David can end similarly to the Frenchman’s big arrival.
Inter Milan Still In The Race For Jonathan David – New Contacts & Counter-Offer
Inter had been chasing Marcus Thuram for many months before he made his decision. But in the end, they found an agreement to sign the Frenchman.
And similarly, Jonathan David is still mulling over his future, with a number of potential destination.
Considering that he is leaving Lille on a free transfer, David has high salary demands. The Gazzetta report that the Canadian wants €8 million net per season.
Then there would also be a high sign-on bonus and agent commissions.
So far, those demands have put off potential suitors.
Therefore, Inter sense a potential opportunity remaining to sign David this summer.
The Nerazzurri have made a counter-offer to David. They will offer him a five-year deal worth €5 million net per season – close to €10 million gross.
That is some way from David’s demands. But it represents a big investment and a substantial show of faith.
There have been recent contacts between Inter and David’s representatives.
Therefore, it is now a matter of the waiting game for the Nerazzurri. And they believe that they are still in the race.
