Inter plot to bring in another top-notch striker and recently rekindled the contacts with Jonathan David, who will be a free agent after June. The Nerazzurri touched base with his agent Nick Mavromaras right before the first leg of the Coppa Italia Derby, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

They learned that the striker isn’t close to signing with any team yet. Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus kicked the tires, but nobody has come close to meeting his demands at this stage. He asks for €8M wages, while he camp wants a €10M commission.

Inter won’t offer that much for David either, but they let it be known that they’d be ready if he lowered his requests. They could tender a five-year contract with a €5M salary. They are unlikely to improve their proposal.

The Nerazzurri aren’t leading the race, but their chase resembles what happened with Marcus Thuram, who seemed poised to go elsewhere but then picked them after a strong late push. They continue to be keen on Bologna’s Santiago Castro, but the negotiation with Bologna will be tough. His future might depend on how the season ends for his club.

Our Take on Inter and David

It’d be very ambitious to add him to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, but it doesn’t hurt to try. Among their deputies, only Marko Arnautovic has given them something tangible, but it’s a recent development. Besides the economic aspect, which isn’t secondary, he might prefer going to a team where he’d be the undisputed top option rather than having to compete with a pair of stars.
