Inter Milan have made contact with the representatives of Lille striker Jonathan David ahead of a potential summer transfer, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Canadian international has confirmed that he will part ways with the Ligue 1 outfit when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Considered one of Europe’s prolific strikers, David has attracted interest from a handful of top clubs, including Inter.
The Nerazzurri are planning to offer him a five-year contract worth €5 million per year.
David joined Lille from Genk in 2020 and has since been a spearhead of the attack for the French giants.
He has bagged 107 goals and 28 assists in 228 appearances for Lille and was part of the side that won the Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.
David has been in spectacular form this season for Bruno Genesio’s side, netting 23 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
He turned the heads of many with his stellar performances in the Champions League, scoring against the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus have been credited with an interest in David.
Inter are looking to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window to continue their dominance next season.
With Marko Arnautovic’s deal expiring in June, the Nerazzurri are planning to bring in a new centre-forward to their ranks.
Besides David, Simone Inzaghi’s side are monitoring Bologna’s Argentine sensation Santiago Castro, who has been one of the breakout stars in Serie A this season.
Inter are also said to be in pole position to sign Marseille forward Luis Henrique after Bayern Munich backed out of the race to sign the Brazilian.
