Insider believes T.J. Watt wants more money than Myles Garrett—Steelers deal expected

The bad blood and bitter rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns extends beyond the approximate 130 miles separating the two cities—as T.J. Watt appears ready to take his edge rusher competition with Myles Garrett to the next level.

Watt has recently been involved in trade rumors due to a cryptic social media post, likely tied to a potential contract fallout between himself and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Garrett recently became the highest-paid defender in the NFL with a four-year, $160 million contract extension from the Cleveland Browns—and according to insider Ray Fittipaldo, Watt—who's set to make just $21 million in 2025—wants to take that title away from Garrett.

In an appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Fittipaldo had this to say about a potential Watt extension being impacted by Garrett:

"There's always that tension between Watt and Garrett. Garrett is outspoken on how he's the best, and Watt—he keeps it to himself, but obviously, Watt feels like he should have that designation in the NFL," Fittipaldo stated. "[The Steelers] want him to be here, T.J. wants to be here. In the end, I think [the contract extension] will get done," he added.

The two have been engaged in a hot-and-cold feud ever since the future Hall of Fame Steelers edge rusher, Watt, was snubbed from the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year award in favor of Garrett—who had far less statistical production that season.
