NFL draft insider: Buzz has centered on Panthers' love for Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams

A pretty plugged-in NFL draft insider seems to think that the Carolina Panthers are loving a particular University of Georgia defender. And no, it's probably not the one almost everybody is thinking of.

Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline dished out a new two-round mock draft on Friday. He, once again, connects pass rusher Mykel Williams to the Panthers at the eighth overall pick—and included this interesting blurb on the projection:

Since Georgia's pro day, all the buzz has centered on the Panthers' love for Williams, as I reported at the time.

The favorite for Carolina's first-round pick—at least amongst league experts—is Williams' teammate, hybrid linebacker Jalon Walker. Walker, who has played both off the ball and off the edge, led the Bulldogs with 6.5 sacks in 2024.

But Williams is an intriguing prospect in his own right.

With a big frame (6-foot-5 and 260 pounds) and room for a massive amount of upside, the 20-year-old Williams fits the bill of what general manager Dan Morgan and the Panthers are looking for at the position. He's also a pro-ready run defender, which should be appeal to a team that allowed a whopping 179.8 rushing yards per game this past season.
