The Martha's Vineyard girls tennis team has its first win, and it is a big one.
In the season opener for both teams, Martha's Vineyard (1-0) topped St. John Paul II (0-1), 3-2.
At first singles, the Vineyarders' Laina Dubin beat Lily Walker, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1. The Vineyarders' first doubles team of Zoe Treitman and Charolette Marshard defeated Kayla Katziff and Ava Powell, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The Martha's Vineyard second doubles team of Ella Moran and Clementine Zeender defeated Emily Desrusseaut and Joey Dunamel of St. John Paul, 6-4, 7-5.
St. John Paul II's Bella Scioletti defeated Leah Thomson, 6-2, 6-1 in second singles. Grace Walker defeated Ellie Pennington, 6-3, 6-1 in third singles.

Falmouth 4, Sandwich 1: The Clippers (1-0) topped the Blue Knights (1-2) in their opening match. At first singles, Andrew Emmel of Sandwich beat Brady Keyser (6-2, retired). At second singles, Falmouth's Quinton Heffiran beat Quinn Johnston (6-0, 6-0). At third singles, Falmouth's Jacob Faidell beat Joey LaScola (6-1, 6-1). Falmouth first doubles team won (6-2, 6-4). Falmouth first doubles of Jack Beardsley and Henry Stoermer and second doubles of Fofi Verslycke and Moss Junker won.
Softball
Bishop Stang 21, Bourne 9: The Canalmen (0-2) fell despite strong efforts from Michaela Muldoon (one double, two RBIs) and Brooke Wrighter (one single, two RBIs).
Baseball
Dennis-Yarmouth 5, Carver 5: The Dolphins' match was suspended due to darkness after five innings and will be completed later. Griffin Endres and Hudson Cambal had two hits each.
Barnstable 8, Duxbury 8 (suspended): The game was suspended due to fog. It will be resumed on April 23 when they face each other again.
Girls Lacrosse
Old Colony 6, Upper Cape 4: The Rams (0-2) fell for the second time this season. Jessi Girouard (two goals), Emma Hanoian (one goal) and Kai’ana Perez (one goal) scored for the Rams. Perez had a standout game at midfield, hustling to slow down the transitions with help from midfielder Macee Pina.
Mashpee 15, Bourne 7: The Falcons (2-1) topped the Canalmen (0-1). Ciara Hendricks had multiple goals and assists, and facilitated the offense throughout the day. Sophia Morin had a hat trick, and dominated draws. Izzy Almeida played well in net.
Boys Lacrosse
Tri-County 11, Cape Tech 3: The Crusaders (0-2) lost for the second time to start the season.
Old Colony 5, Upper Cape 3: The Rams (0-1) dropped their opening game of the season.
Silver Lake 18, Barnstable 6: The Red Hawks (0-1) lost their first game of the season.
Plymouth South 7, Falmouth 6: The Clippers (0-1) lost their first game of the season with six seconds remaining. Gavin Powderly made six saves in net. Two goals each from Travis and Jackson Smith. Charlie Hosteter and Jack Good had a goal each. The Clippers were winning with two minutes left, but Plymouth South scored with 37 seconds, and again with six seconds left.
Mashpee 11, Bourne 10: The Falcons (2-0) edged the Canalmen (0-1) in comeback fashion. Jack Balfour had six goals. Max Smith and Dominic Matteodeo had two goals and four assists each. Michael Valois had a goal and won 13-of-24 faceoffs.
