Homers, gems and steals: Vote for IndyStar softball players of the week (April 7-12)

IndyStar will be recognizing the top softball players in Indiana with our players of the week poll, presented by YMCA of Greater Indianapolis.

Winners of IndyStar athlete of week polls will be invited to and honored at the Indiana High School Sports Awards, presented by the Indiana Pacers/Fever, on April 27 at Butler's Clowes Hall.

Congratulations to Lake Central's Maddie Such and Concord's Morgan Weatherholt on garnering co-Player of the Week honors for March 31-April 5! Such, a sophomore pitcher, worked a three-hit shutout of Munster with 14 strikeouts, then pitched four scoreless innings against Penn, allowing just two hits with 18 strikeouts. Weatherholt was seriously injured in a car crash on Nov. 1. The senior Indiana Tech commit was honored ahead of the Minutemen's season opener vs. Fairfield, taking a walk from friend Madison Jones with both teams lining their respective baselines. 

Here were the top performers from the past week.

Gracie Crafton, Shelbyville

Crafton batted .350 across six games, highlighted by a pair of 2-for-3 performances Friday. She also struck out 37 batters across 36 innings pitched, highlighted by her 10-K effort in an eight-inning outing vs. Bloomington North, a nine-K complete game vs. Columbus North and a seven-K outing against defending champ HSE in six innings pitched.

Kamryn Elliott, Princeton

The junior catcher started her week with back-to-back 3-for-4 performances. She drove in two RBIs and scored a run against Wood Memorial, then collected an RBI and two runs scored in a loss to Vincennes Lincoln. Elliott also swiped three bases for the week.

Sidney Feczko, Cathedral

The Irish ace recorded wins over West Lafayette Harrison, Lutheran and Silver Creek (one-hit shutout), striking out 34 of the 61 batters she faced and issuing just five walks. Feczko, who also went 5-for-12 at the plate, allowed just one unearned run on two hits across 27 innings.

Breianna Harlow, Greenwood

The freshman is off to a blistering start, batting .714 with 10 hits, six RBIs, five runs scored and three homers. She went yard twice in an 18-8 win over Lawrence Central, one of her three multi-hit games for the week.

Gabi Hilliard, Warren Central

Hilliard went 5-for-8 on the week. She was 4-for-5 with a couple doubles, three RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases against Bethesda Christian, then went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and an additional stolen base vs. Triton Central.
