High school baseball: Flames win behind one-hitter

Apr. 4—The Lodi High varsity baseball team made quick work of West on Wednesday, with pitcher Andrew Fichtner throwing a one-hit shutout at Zupo Field.

The senior dazzled the Wolf Pack lineup over five innings before the game ended via 10-run rule, striking out 11 of the 19 batters he faced. Fichtner walked three batters and allowed one hit, a single to Tyler Armstrong.

Meanwhile, Lodi's bats got to West starter Jackson Chiles early, putting nine runs on the board across the first two innings. Landon Beasley had the highlight in the first inning with a deep knock to right field and a jaunt around the basepaths that went into the scorebook as a triple plus a base on an error. Beasley finished with a 3-for-3 day, with the triple, a double, three RBIs and three runs.

The first five batters that came to the plate all scored in the second inning, starting with Aiden Abarca's leadoff single. Rylan Takahashi and Noah Hufford belted back-to-back doubles, Santino Ramirez walked, and Beasley singled, and scored on a Fichtner single after a pitching change.

Fichtner helped his own cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, driving in a run and scoring once. Noah Hufford had a double and two runs, Rylan Takahashi had a double and scored once, Santino Ramirez singled and scored twice, and Abarca, and Slade Schmitt each singled.

Lodi (10-3, 4-1 in the Tri-City Athletic League) will go for the sweep in this week's series today in Tracy.
