BASEBALL RANKINGS: Marysville upsets No. 1 team in D-VI: Indians’ win over Bear River enables team a chance at series victory today

Marysville High baseball earned its first win in the Pioneer Valley League Wednesday when it knocked off Bear River, the top-ranked team in Sac-Joaquin Section D-VI, 2-1 at home at Weldon Field in Marysville.

Avery Landrum struck out nine and walked a pair while allowing one earned run on three hits for the Indians (3-11-1, 1-5 PVL). Marysville and Bear River (7-3, 1-3) end the league series today at 4 p.m. in Grass Valley.

Marysville, as of Thursday’s MaxPreps division rankings, sits top-15 in D-V. Sutter remains No. 1, immediately followed by Wheatland, according to MaxPreps’ computer formula which helps determine at-large playoff berths in May for the SJS playoffs.

Marysville’s next game in Yuba County is Wednesday when it takes on Wheatland in league.

Area’s best

The top team from the region continues to be Yuba City, which moved to 8-0 in the Foothill Valley League with a 13-1 rout of River Valley on Wednesday at RVHS. The two rivals end the series today (Friday) at 6 p.m. at Winship Field on the campus of YCHS.

YC sits No. 6 overall in the section and second in D-III as of Thursday.

The Honkers have a three-game lead in the FVL entering next week’s schedule at Del Campo on Monday.
