Former Jacksonville Jaguars' CB signs with AFC South rival
Former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Ronald Darby will be staying in the AFC South this season.
According to Adam Schefter, Darby is signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Houston Texans.
The Jaguars released Darby this offseason prior to free agency starting. He had just joined the team last offseason, signing a two-year deal at that time worth $10 million. By moving on from Darby, the Jaguars freed up $2.38 million in salary cap space.
Last season with the Jaguars, Darby played 659 defensive snaps and allowed a completion rate of 71% at 13.8 yards per catch with no interceptions and four pass breakups. Quarterbacks had a passer rating of 128.8 when targeting him, according to PFF.
The Jaguars have begun reshaping their cornerback room. They signed Jourdan Lewis who will presumably handle the nickel responsibilities, which then allows Jarrian Jones to move to the boundary.
Certainly, some stability has been provided to this position, but GM James Gladstone shouldn't hesitate to continue to add to it in the NFL draft to boost competition, particularly out wide.
Darby will be the second member of the Jaguars to join the Texans after Jacksonville traded Christian Kirk to Houston.
