What could it cost for Jaguars to sign Rams' free agent WR Cooper Kupp?
If the Jacksonville Jaguars are interested in signing former Rams' wide receiver and current free agent Cooper Kupp, what might it cost?
According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, he's heard that there are some teams who would be willing to offer Kupp around $12 million per year.
"Regarding WR Cooper Kupp's market," Howe posted on X, "I've heard from a handful of teams that believe someone will be willing to offer him around $12M per year. That'll be too much for some teams that aren't in on him. But like anything in free agency, it's fluid, and we'll see if that number changes or how he weighs the money against the destination."
Another potential factor that could come into play for Kupp as he makes his decision is not only how much per year a team is offering but how long the deal is as well.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network would mention recently that "a lot of teams" will have interest in bringing Kupp in. He would go on to mention the Jaguars, Texans, Saints, and Seahawks as teams who "make a lot of sense" for Kupp, although that isn't a report that any of those teams are actively pursuing the wide receiver either.
The fit between Kupp and the Jaguars is an obvious one. GM James Gladstone had been with the LA Rams as long as Kupp had and then some, while Liam Coen's offense will have its share of overlap with Sean McVay's.
During Gladstone's post-free agency press conference, he was asked about Kupp and, in part, had this to say:
"I think at this point in time, it's fair to say, in pro free agency, we're always open to every opportunity that presents itself, but time will truly tell."
Salary cap-wise, even at that $12 million per year amount, the Jaguars have the flexibility to make that addition. Even after making nine free-agent signings, they still rank in the top half of the NFL in salary cap space, according to Over the Cap.
