Jaguars' free agent at position of need signs with new team
Jacksonville Jaguars free-agent defensive tackle Jeremiah Ledbetter will not be returning. Instead, Ledbetter will be signing with the New York Giants, the team announced.
Ledbetter was a sixth-round pick in 2017 by the Detroit Lions and has spent the last three seasons with the Jaguars.
From 2018 through 2022, Ledbetter would appear in just five games. However, during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he appeared in 32 games and put together his most productive season this past year.
Ledbetter would total eight pressures and two sacks in a rotational role in 2024, with his greatest impact coming in the run game, where he ranked 22nd among defensive tackles in PFF's run defense grade.
It's not a surprise that Ledbetter is not returning to the Jaguars. As new GM James Gladstone reshapes this roster, he hasn't re-signed any of the Jaguars' unrestricted free agents at this time.
The defensive line is very much a need for the Jaguars, and one that Gladstone said he'd prioritize this offseason. However, part of that 'getting better play' equation is bringing in new talent, and with a very deep draft class at this position group, that should provide the Jaguars with opportunities to add some impact players to that room.
