Baseball playoffs are inching closer and closer as April arrives.
And that's no joke, just one day after April Fool's day.
With all area teams back in action this past week, the latest Florida High School Athletic Association rankings were released on Monday. Any games played Monday night were not included in the rankings.
Pace, even with a loss to Gulf Breeze during the week, remains Escambia and Santa Rosa County's top-ranked team, improving to No. 15 overall in the state with a 21.848 rating.
Speaking of the Dolphins, Gulf Breeze jumped up 11 spots after a two-win week to No. 21 overall in the state and a rating of 21.034, showing just how close it is near the top of the rankings.
District leaders include Pace (6A), Gulf Breeze (5A), Escambia (4A) and Jay (Rural).
Here are the fourth FHSAA baseball rankings for teams from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, plus a way-too-early playoff watch.
Class 6A
- Pace (21.848) – first in District 1-6A, second in Region 1-6A, second in Class 6A, 15th overall in state
- Tate (12.242) – second in District 1-6A, fifth in Region 1-6A, 16th in Class 6A, 112th overall in state
- Navarre (2.579) – fourth in District 1-6A, 16th in Region 1-6A, 53rd in Class 6A, 310th overall in state
Class 5A
- Gulf Breeze (21.034) – first in District 1-5A, first in Region 1-5A, first in Class 5A, 21st overall in state
- Milton (8.644) – third in District 1-5A, eighth in Region 1-5A, 22nd in Class 5A, 187th overall in state
