Apr. 11—BIGFORK — Eureka and Bigfork went back-and-forth for seven innings and needed extras to decide a winner, with the Lions scoring the winning run in the eighth inning for a 4-3 victory in high school baseball Thursday night.
Tyce Van Orden started the rally for the Lions, lacing a leadoff double in the eighth inning. The next batter Hunter Grieve, grounded out to the pitcher and Van Orden was able to score from second on an error.
Eureka (4-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as three of the first four batters hit a single with Emmet McKim's knock scoring a run. Rowan Burow followed with a sacrifice fly to score Grieve.
The Vikings (3-2) scored in their half of the first with a sacrifice fly and added another in the second when Sam Plummer came around to score on an error after leading off the frame with a double.
Eureka loaded the bases in the fifth and retook the lead on Logan Cuffe's hit by pitch. The Vikings responded in the next inning when Hayden Mayer hit a 1-out double and scored on a Mason Lewis single. The tying run for Bigfork reached base in the eighth inning but never moved into scoring position.
Ronan 13, Troy 3
RONAN — Liam Wills spun a gem, allowing just two hits, no earned runs and struck out 14 batters as Ronan beat Troy for their first win of the season.
Hunter Luedtke provided all the offense Wills needed, driving in five runs on his way to a 2-for-4 day, both hits going for extra bases. Wills also helped his cause by reaching base three times, all via walks and came around to score each time.
Damien Hess added two hits with four RBIs for and Lucas Johnston recorded three hits and plated two runs for the Chiefs (1-3) as every starter reached base at least one time.
Carson Orr accounted for all of the Trojans (0-4) offense, going 3-for-3 and driving in two of the team's three runs. Orr also accounted for the unearned run in the first inning when he scored on a passed ball.
Whitefish 15, Noxon-Thompson Falls 5
NOXON — Whitefish plated nine runs in the third inning, added four more in the fourth highlight by Tait Orme's home run to open the game up against Noxon-Thompson Falls.
The Red Devils (0-4) started the scoring, plating two runs in the first on a CJ Yoder RBI single and scoring the other on a wild pitch. They added another in the second after back-to-back doubles from Payton Chambers and Justice Kayser, then the Bulldogs offense took over.
In the third inning, six-straight batters reached base before the Red Devils were able to record an out. The Bulldogs (3-0) then followed with the next five batters reaching base, highlighted by Drew Queen's double.
All nine starters recorded a hit for the Bulldogs, with Queen leading the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
