That didn't take long. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has been making a lot of overtures to the New Orleans Saints, specifically as an ideal landing spot for his star quarterback prospect (and son) Shedeur Sanders, a potential top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
And when news broke Friday evening that the Saints' starting quarterback, Derek Carr, was contemplating shoulder surgery? Sanders didn't wait long to stir the pot again. He responded to a tweet from ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, who had said "That 9th pick gonna be all kinds of interesting," with a fingers-crossed emoji by quoting it with an emoji of his own: a pair of watchful eyes. We're doing some real heavy-lifting journalism by digging into this, right?
Dictionary.com says that this "eyes" emoji has several applications: "It mostly serves to draw attention to something the user wants to highlight, especially in situations that involve drama and interpersonal tension. It can also be an emoji representation of shifty eyes or the action of side-eyeing. This emoji sometimes appears when someone finds a person attractive."
A person or a football team. The Saints own that ninth overall pick, and Sanders has been doing a lot to drum up the idea they could draft his QB with it. We've speculated before that he could be just leveraging his platform to ensure a top-10 pick and the lucrative contract which comes with it --the value of a four-year deal at the No. 9 spot is estimated at $27.7 million, compared to, say, $17.9 million for the No. 21 pick.
