Contract details for Arizona Cardinals DL Calais Campbell

And then there were none.

After the official signing Thursday of defensive lineman Calais Campbell by the Arizona Cardinals, it was only a matter of time before the details of the deal would become known.

This time, unlike many situations when it comes to contracts, what was reported initially is totally accurate: It’s a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the ability to earn $2 million in performance bonuses.

Breaking the total down, the contract has $4.25 million guaranteed, which includes a $2 million signing bonus and $2.25 million base salary.

There are also per-game roster bonuses of $73,529 for a max total of $1.25 million.

The salary cap charge is $6 million instead of $5.5 million because $500,000 of what is believed to be a play-time bonus is considered likely to be earned for cap purposes because Campbell reached that level in 2024.

The breakdown of those bonuses is not known, but he played 58 percent of the defensive snaps with the Miami Dolphins last season and 38 percent on special teams.

It’s also possible some of the bonuses are based on team achievement.

Campbell’s love of playing the game shows when his contract history is examined.

His second contract with the Cardinals after his rookie deal was worth $55 million over five years. His next deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2017-2020 totaled $60 million over four years. He signed a two-year, $25 million with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 and then a $12.5 million, two-year deal with the Ravens in 2022, but he was released at the start of the 2023 league year.

Then came a one-year, $7 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in 2023 and a one-year, $2 million deal last year with the Dolphins.

For the 19 signed players with published contract details (Campbell, Trey McBride, Jake Curhan, Kelvin Beachum, Zay Jones, Royce Newman, Zay Jones, Simi Fehoko, Jacoby Brissett, Dalvin Tomlinson, Josh Sweat, Baron Browning, Mykal Walker, L.J. Collier, Evan Brown, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Joey Blount, Aaron Brewer and Travis Vokolek) plus the one-year restricted free-agent tender for Greg Dortch, the total cap charge this year for those players is $66.288 million.
